The 2012 Audi Q5 Hybrid Quattro Review and Pricing

Power like a V6, fuel consumption like a four-cylinder TDI - after three generations of the Audi duo, the Audi Q5 hybrid quattro is the first hybrid model from Audi with two drive systems. Its gasoline engine, a 2.0 TFSI, and its electric motor have a system output 180 kW (245 hp) and 480 Nm (354.03 lb-ft) for sporty dynamics - the mean consumption in the normal cycle (NEDC) is limited to less than 7.0 liters per 100 km (33.60 US mpg). The 2.0 TFSI and the electric motor of the Audi Q5 hybrid are mounted directly behind one another as a parallel hybrid system - a straight-line concept with impressive efficiency. Together they have a system output of 180 kW (245 hp) and a system torque of 480 Nm (354.03 lb-ft). The new top model in the successful Q5 series sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 miles) in 7.1 seconds, while the interim sprint from 80 to 120 km/h (49.71 to 74.56 mph) is
accomplished in fifth gear in 5.9 seconds. The powerful propulsion ends at no less than 222 km/h (137.94 mph).

Under the bonnet is Audi’s turbocharged and direct-injected 2.0-litre TFSI unit, good for 208bhp and 258lb ft, the latter available from 1500 to 4200rpm. There’s no manual ‘box or dual-clutch transmission, but an eight-speed automatic, with a disk-shaped electric motor in place of the torque converter. The motor itself produces 33kW and 155lb ft, and also acts as a starter motor and a generator. The total output for the system is 241bhp and 354lb ft.

The result is 40.4mpg and sub-160g/km CO2, plus 0-62mph in 7.1 seconds, 138mph flat out. Not gobsmacked? Then remember that this is a car primarily designed for the diesel-despising USA. For comparisons sake, a non-hybrid 2.0 TFSI with an S-tronic transmission (what American will opt for a stick-shift SUV?) manages 7.2sec, 137mph, 32.8mpg and 19
9g/km. And the important figures match or best an auto-equipped 2.0 TDI’s 40.4mpg and 184g/km.

Just because the Audi Q5 Hybrid Quattro starts with a four-cylinder engine doesnt mean its slow. In fact, 0-62 mph takes 7.1 seconds. The nearly 20-gallon fuel tank, Audi notes, means this Q5 has a diesel-like range, though probably not if you are traveling at the vehicles 138-mph top speed.
The 2.0-liter engine weve come to know and love in other Audis is altered for u
se in the Hybrid. The turbo has been retuned and the ECU helps make smooth transitions between operating modes. An eight-speed automatic transmission is part of the package, as is engine start-stop technology. By itself, the electric m
otor makes 45 horsepower and 155 pound-feet of torque. The lithium-ion battery system doesnt have a huge effect on the cargo capacity, Audi says.

First Drive BMW Active Hybrid 3

BMW ACTIVE HYBRID 3
At first glance a conventional 3 - under the sheet is hidden but hybrid technology.

According to the models 7, 5, 6 BMW upgraded now from his 3-hybrid sedan. The Active Hybrid 3 forms with 52,300 euros to enter into the world of BMW models with combustion plus electric motor.

The technique was adapted from the 5 Series: The 225 kW/306 hp of the three-liter six-cylinder add up with the 40 kW/55 hp electric motor to the 250 kW/340 hp and 450 Nm of system performance. The electric motor provides strong as ever for train even at very low speeds.

When full walked on the Active Hybrid 3 sets then so emphatically in movement that he nearly everything else leaves behind. The default value for the sprint from a standstill to 100 (5.3 seconds) is the tremendous acceleration again imperfectly. The top speed is specified with (governed top) 250 km / h.

H to 75 km / h in purely electric

Fun but also comes with a completely different driving style: The Active Hybrid 3 rolled silently out of the garage, takes almost inaudible to ride. Up to four kilometers wide and up to 75 km / h, he should roll without engine, no fuel consumption and no emissions.

With Driving Experience Control in Eco-Pro-position roles with very gentle gas is - "Sailing" - even without a combustion engine to a speed of 160 possible. During deceleration and braking, the battery is always charged as in hybrid drive again.

On road as highway when the car rolls evenly or slightly downhill, tachometer and fuel gauge are actually often zero. In stop-and-go works almost only the electric motor. The operator can observe the interaction of Nitro, electric motor and battery on the screen. Result, a fuel consumption of just 5.9 liters per 100 km (139 g CO2) are realistic on the road seven to eight.

Sporty but expensive

Four-cylinder and six-cylinder fuel consumption mileage happy then the engineers in Munich. And for its ActiveHybrid 3 almost the entire range of sports Optional keep ready - to lowering to 19-inch wheels and variable sports steering. Up on little things like the instrumentation or the functioning even when the internal combustion engine, the sedan air conditioning is virtually indistinguishable from their conventionally powered counterparts. The weight increased by 135 kg, the luggage compartment shrank by 90 to 390 liters, still allows the rear backrest tilt to the trunk extension.

Saving effect mainly urban

Electric motor, battery, and want to be paid for dearly. The Hybrid uses - like everyone - especially in the city: urban fuel consumption 5.3 liters compared with 10.2 in the 335i with the same six-cylinder engine, with the same fine eight-speed automatic, with almost same performance. On road and highway are the same numbers of more and more. After norm, the difference in average only 1.3 liters. Even those who equivalent of two and three liters per 100 kilometers Euro savings needs, more than 200,000 km, to amortize the 6440 Euro hybrid cost. Against the 330d for about 8,000 euros less - with 190 kW/258 hp, again with eight-speed automatic and performance equally well in sports - he anticipates going nowhere.

The leaders in Munich keeps you cool. They think less of the domestic market. But primarily to countries like China or California, the diesel models do not like and where hybrid models have far greater significance. Even here there are people who have the latest technology and green in moderation cost something.
